Дългочаканата и закъсняла забрана бележи огромна победа за използваните за опити животни и за онези хора, които неуморно защитават правата им години наред. От 11 март всеки, който иска да продава нови козметични продукти и съставки, трябва да не ги е изпитвал върху животни никъде по света. Забраната важи за всякаква козметика, включително тоалетни продукти и гримове – от сапун и паста за зъби до червило и спирала ЕС за първи път гласува за забраната през 1993 г., предизвикан от общественото недоволство и интензивна борба срещу изпитването на козметика върху животни. Забраната трябваше да влезе в сила от 1998 г., но срокът се отлагаше отново и отново, преди Седмата поправка в Директивата за козметичните стоки от 2003 г. да пост...

Snapped in Gabon's Petit-Loango Reserve, a western bush pig is recognizable by its distinctive white-tasseled ears and red hair. Found in the forests and scrublands of sub-Saharan Africa, the omnivorous bush pig uses its snout to root for food. Throughout the 2,000-mile (3,200-kilometer) Megatransect, ecologist Mike Fay painstakingly recorded "every pile of dung, every tree, every cry of a chimpanzee," to convey the importance of preserving central Africa’s rich ecosystem. The Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara, CA this year caused these two to take shelter together. The fawn is about 3 days old and the bobcat about 3 weeks. They immediately bonded and snuggled together under a desk in the Santa Barbara County Dispatch Office for several hours.   Animal Planet is reporting the bobcat kitten was rescued near Arnold Schwarzenegger's ranch, where it was dehydrated and near death. They rescued the fawn during the wildfire. Although wild animals, especially of separate species, are never placed together due to regulations, in this emergency situation, they had no choice. During the mayhem of the fire, they were forced to put animals anywhere they could, since they had run out of crates large enough for the fawn.
